The raw steel was all around here. The smell of white hot torches filled the air, mixing with the seawater and fuel in the air to form a potent bouquet. Yet all she could pay attention to was that one cute boy she saw on one of the other ships. Her vessel was docked in Portland, a routine stop that changed the rest of her life. Sheila and Mike met fatefully that day as their paths crossed in the Merchant Marines, and they never looked back. Traveling the world together for three years was just the beginning, and the beginning of their next chapter upon the high seas was written last weekend in San Diego on the North Island NAS, a fitting location for two Navy officers. We started our day in downtown Coronado at the beautiful Glorietta Bay Inn, made our way across the street to the Hotel Del Coronado for portraits, and back to the base for the ceremony and party. The sun was bright in the sky, and so were the hearts and souls of two lovebirds, ready to start their next adventure, only this time as husband and wife.
